Hockey season resumes at Pegula tonight

The No. 19 Penn State men’s hockey team resumes its season tonight against Army.

How to Watch

Opponent Preview

Army (5-13-0) enters this contest unranked in the USCHO poll and No. 54 in the Pairwise. The Black Knights are a young team, with freshman Brent Keefer leading the team with 8 goals. Michael Sacco and Mac Gadowsky (son of PSU coach Guy Gadowsky) are tied for the team lead in assists, with 11 apiece.

Goaltender Evan Szary is the likely starter for Army in tonight’s game, posting a record of 4-6, 3.22 GAA, and .902 save percentage.

The Black Knights are led by 20th-year head coach Brian Riley. Tonight will be the first time Army will play at Pegula Ice Arena since the barn’s inaugural game on October 11, 2013. Penn State won the game 4-1.

Prediction

January has been a struggle for the Nittany Lions in years past. If Penn State is going to make the NCAA Tournament, this is a game it absolutely must win. I think the Lions start out slow following the holiday break, but their talent advantage will eventually overwhelm the Black Knights.

Penn State 5, Army 2
