IPL 2024: Pat Cummins sets the tone for Sunrisers Hyderabad

Xtra Time Web Desk: As the IPL 2024 season gears up for action, Pat Cummins, the newest skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is not mincing words about his vision for the team. After a forgettable outing in 2023, Cummins, the big-money acquisition for SRH, is determined to lead the charge with aggression and intent right from the start.

Taking over the captaincy reins from Aiden Markram, Cummins wasted no time in immersing himself in the SRH setup. “Well, I picked the singlet, which is not normally me, but it was the only shirt I found. The rest are packed away. So yeah, maybe next time I’ll be wearing sleeves, but orange looks great. Uniforms. Awesome,” quipped Cummins, reflecting his enthusiasm for the team’s colors.

With his first session with the team scheduled for March 20, Cummins expressed his eagerness to bond with his new teammates and understand their expectations from their leader. “I’m looking to work closely with some of the guys I don’t know that well in the side and get to know what they would want from their skipper during the tournament,” he stated.

Setting his sights on a blazing start to the season, Cummins emphasized the importance of unity and strategy. “I mean, the plans are, you know, I work really closely with the guys that I don’t know too well. Get to know them. Get to know what they need from me out in the middle. And then, you know, work with coaches and what they want to see out of me as well as a player,” he elaborated.

Acknowledging the challenges of T20 cricket, Cummins stressed the need for an aggressive approach, particularly in the opening fixtures. “So, a bit of planning to go and then just wanna get off to a really good start. T20s are hard. Kolkata’s a good team, but I think just wanna see a really aggressive start to the season,” he asserted.

Optimistic about the squad’s composition, Cummins highlighted the blend of experience and youthful exuberance. “I think we’ve got a great mix. We’ve got a couple more experienced guys like Bhuvi. Obviously Aiden Markram captained last year. But we’ve got some exciting young talent. I’m super excited to see guys like Abhishek, Umran Malik, these kind of guys I’ve only seen a little bit of but super excited, so I think fans should be pretty,” he concluded, exuding confidence in SRH’s prospects.

With Cummins at the helm, SRH fans can expect nothing short of a spirited and determined performance as they embark on their IPL 2024 campaign.
