Asia Cup 2023: BCCI unwilling to play in UAE, final decision to be taken in ACC meeting

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not willing to play forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 matches in UAE as proposed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in its second hybrid model. The representatives of Sri Lanka Cricket Board, Afghanistan Cricket Board in a meeting with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah could not reach a solution. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon could not attend the meeting because of personal commitments. The informal meeting happened in Ahmedabad on the side-lines of IPL 2023 final.

It is learnt that the cricket boards of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will back BCCI in its stand to not accept the hybrid model proposed by PCB. The Indian cricket board is not willing to play Asia Cup matches in UAE. They would want the matches to take place in Sri Lanka. The reason BCCI is not in favour of holding Asia Cup matches in UAE in September is because of the excessive hot weather conditions.

Oman Cricket chairman Pankaj Khimji, who is also the ACC vice-president, has been handed the responsibility of resolving the impasse.

The Indian board had earlier cited safety concerns for travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in September, which prompted the PCB to offer BCCI to play their matches in UAE.
