Delhi Capitals name Abhishek Porel as replacement for Rishabh Pant | IPL 2023 season

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who is injured has been replaced in the Delhi Capitals line-up by Bengal’s wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel. Pant is undergoing rehab after facing a horrific car accident on the eve of the new year. Axar Patel has been named the vice-captain, and David Warner will captain Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 season.

Why the lanky wicket-keeper batter from Bengal was selected ahead of the likes of Karnataka’s Luvnith Sisodia, Sourashtra’s Sheldon Jackson, and Vivek Singh, who all spent a significant amount of time in the Delhi Capitals’ pre-season training camp in Kolkata and Delhi. Former India captain and currently the Director of Cricket for DC and Head Coach Ricky Ponting decided to go in with the 20-year-old Abhishek. Ponting did emphasise how difficult it would be to replace a player like Rishabh.

Abishek Porel, who last year helped India win the U19 World Cup, only recently made his debut for state side across all formats. He has currently participated in 16 first-class, 3 List A, and 3 T20 games. Abhishek has not established himself in the limited-overs format, but he now has an excellent chance to mingle with the likes of Mitch Marsh, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw and others in the DC squad.
