Enjoy a seismic Saturday of college football as you patiently await the Penn State-Indiana kickoff.
Please remember the three rules of this weekly series:
- Big Ten games are not included since they are covered in Thursday’s conference preview.
- Games during Penn State’s timeslot are not typically included.
- If Georgia is somewhere on this list, you better believe an image of UGA, who is a very good boy, will be used.
(#8)Arkansas at (#2)Georgia
Noon, ESPN
Not many expected this to be a marquee game a few weeks ago, but Arkansas has surprised nearly everyone by blazing a path into the top 10 during the first month of the season. They aren’t just squeaking past opponents either, they are playing impressive football led by a ferocious defense. Georgia enters as an 18-point favorite, but the Razorbacks should make this interesting.
Prediction: Georgia-23, Arkansas-16
Duke at North Carolina
Noon, ESPN2
This isn’t necessarily an intriguing game on its own. However, it’s a chance to see a fierce late-season rivalry game played on the first Saturday of October. This will be a good backup option should the Georgia-Arkansas game get out of hand.
Prediction: Duke-28, North Carolina-27
(#7)Cincinnati at (#9)Notre Dame
2:30 p.m., NBC
Notre Dame’s style this season appears to be to grind out games and make a play or two to secure the win (or in the case of the Toledo game, benefit from five straight BS pass interference/defensive holding calls and then waltz into the end zone for the game-winning score). It feels like a high wire act that will eventually come toppling down. Given the abilities of Luke Fickell’s Bearcats squad, and the fact they are coming off a bye week, this seems like the week the Irish will get that seemingly inevitable ‘L’ that was narrowly missed throughout September.
Prediction: Cincinnati- 30, Notre Dame-27
(#12)Ole Miss at (#1)Alabama
3:30 p.m., CBS
Ole Miss has come out hitting on all cylinders, although they now face a behemoth on the road after spanking Louisville, Austin Peay and Tulane to start the season. Last year’s contest was a total barnburner, with the Tide coming out on top 63-48. Despite Ole Miss coming off a bye week, I’m expecting a similar result - loads of points and a Tide victory.
Prediction: Alabama-59, Ole Miss-49
(#6)Oklahoma at Kansas State
3:30 p.m., FOX
Just like Notre Dame, the Sooners are flirting with disaster on a weekly basis. Their luck will run out at some point, and Kansas State is one of those programs that always seems to find itself pulling off a major upset on a semi-regular basis.
Prediction: Kansas State-26, Oklahoma-24
(#10)Florida at Kentucky
6 p.m., ESPN
Feeling anxious as the clock ticks closer to kickoff? Check out Will Levis lead the Kentucky offense for a half in an upset bid of the Gators.
Prediction: Florida-34, Kentucky-21
(#22)Auburn at LSU
9 p.m., ESPN
This is one of the nation’s most exciting rivalries, with plenty of instant classics over the years. It will also double as a way to wind down following the Penn State game. Cheer for Auburn to help that sweet, sweet strength of schedule.
Prediction: Auburn-31, LSU-28
