NCAA Football: Ball State at Penn State

After hosting recruits for a game for the first time 22 months a massive recruiting weekend is on the horizon for the Nittany Lions

VISITORS FOR THE WIN OVER BALL STATE

This past Saturday the Nittany Lions hosted not just the Ball State Cardinals, but, for the first time in 22 months, they also hosted recruits for visits. This included a contingency of 2022 commits such as Drew Shelton, Kaden Saunders, Ken Talley, Nick Singleton, JB Nelson, and Tyrece Mills, among others.

Joining these commits on campus was 2023 tight end Joey Schlaffer who was offered by the Nittany Lions during the visit.

Schlaffer attends Exeter Township High School, the same school that produced three-year offensive line starter Michal Menet. With Schlaffer being not just an in-state recruit but an in-state recruit from a school that James Franklin and his staff have had recruiting success at in the past, his name will be one for Nittany Lion fans to watch moving forward.

Another notable in-state 2023 prospect who made their way to campus for the victory over Ball State was Northeast EDGE rusher Kion Wright.

Wright is a teammate of Talley’s and has been a regular on campus since the NCAA dead period ended over the summer. Wright’s name is one Nittany Lion fans should get familiar with as the Nittany Lions will be very difficult to beat in his recruitment.

BIG RECRUITING WEEKEND ON TAP

Ladies and gentlemen the White Out is back. This means that one of the biggest recruiting weekends of each college football season is on the horizon as the Nittany Lion coaching staff are prepping for recruits to flock to campus.

The Nittany Lions are prepping to host almost their entire 2022 recruiting class on campus this weekend. Their lone 2023 commit, five-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier, will also be on campus.

This is always a big plus for a class as it allows those players to bond and to continue to form that brotherhood and camaraderie together. They will also be big for peer recruiting this weekend.

As the week goes on this visitor list will continue to take shape but some big-time targets have already said they’ll be on campus. This includes the number one overall player in the 2024 recruiting cycle — quarterback Jadyn Davis.

Davis hails from Fort Mill, South Carolina. This will be his second visit to Happy Valley in the last two months after also attending the Lasch Bash in late July. Davis will have offers from every major program in the country. That said, early on in his recruitment the Nittany Lions appear to be among the leaders for Davis. While landing Davis will take a gargantuan effort, continuing to get him on campus early and often will give the Nittany Lions a chance.

DREW ALLAR UPDATES RECRUITMENT

Quarterback Drew Allar is arguably the prized jewel of Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class. The top-100 signal caller appears to be the elite quarterback that has been the missing link during the Franklin Era in Happy Valley.

Last week a day many Penn State fans have feared since Allar committed to Penn State back in March arrived. The in-state Ohio State Buckeyes extended an offer to Allar. However, you may have missed this. After all, Allar did not promote the offer or mention it at all on social media, which, in my opinion, is pretty telling.

Allar discussed the offer with Ryan Snyder of Blue-White Illustrated. While you can read the full interview here the biggest takeaway is that Allar told Snyder that “nothing has changed and nothing will change.” Allar added that he is “locked in,” with the Nittany Lions.

This has long appeared to be one of the few recruitments where the Buckeyes offering an Ohio kid would not make that kid a slam dunk to the Buckeyes. Allar’s comments and actions have only backed those feelings up further. Breathe easy, Nittany Lion fans, Allar will be in Happy Valley for the White Out this weekend as well.
