CeeDee Lamb comes in at No. 34 in NFL Top 100

||

The Dallas Cowboys have themselves a great one. CeeDee Lamb was drafted No. 17 overall by Jerry Jones and the Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft, and all he’s done since going to the NFL is the same thing he did at Oklahoma: Make plays.

Lamb has been doing it since high school, which immediately translated to starting snaps as a true freshman. He never looked back, dominating college football with three different quarterbacks in three years.

His first year in the NFL saw more of the same when Dak Prescott was hurt and missed a significant portion of the season. He persisted and still put up decent numbers for a rookie on a team with two previous 1,000-yard receivers.

In year two, he had 79 catches for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns. In year three, with the team needing him to take a step after the Amari Cooper trade, Lamb answered the call to become the team’s alpha and No. 1 option.

Last season, CeeDee Lamb upped the ante and caught 107 passes for 1,359 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. It was his finest season as a professional to date, and at times, he looked unstoppable.

The Cowboys lacked impactful receiving options apart from Lamb. Michael Gallup was still working his way back from a torn ACL. The remaining receivers on the roster couldn’t separate. At times Lamb was being triple-teamed because no one else was open or had shown a penchant for being as dynamic or explosive as CeeDee was with the ball in his hands.

For his efforts, his peers ranked him No. 34 in the 2023 NFL 100.

Lamb cracked the list for the first time last year, slotting in at No. 95. His ascension moved him into the top third of the NFL’s best.

Each season since he was drafted, his reception, yardage, and touchdown totals have increased. He’s getting better by the year, and a massive payday is coming. The Cowboys have already exercised Lamb’s fifth-year option, so he’ll make just under $18 million in 2024, while this upcoming season, he’ll have a base salary of $2.5 million.

The money is coming, but Lamb continues to hunt for greatness. The next step is being consistently dominant. With head coach, Mike McCarthy calling plays this year, plus the addition of Pro Bowl wide-receiver Brandin Cooks,  Lamb should see more single coverage opportunities to exploit. Lamb has been open this offseason about his chemistry with quarterback Dak Prescott. It’s been much improved over this offseason and is something the duo will look to capitalize upon in 2023.
