CFB Week 8: What Twitter Had To Say

NCAA Football: Utah at Southern California
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Penn State wasn’t the only college football program to get embarrassed Saturday.

This week, unfortunately, the eyes of the college football world were locked in on Penn State. We already recapped the online narrative following that game.

But, we all love college football because of the unpredictability, chaos, and silliness that can occur on any given Saturday. And although the Nittany Lions may have made us question our love for the sport, an otherwise beautiful slate of games was a good enough consolation prize.

USC IS COOKED

USC’s season is basically over, Caleb Williams' Heisman campaign is dead, and the Utes continue to assert themselves as a powerhouse college football program. A Cam Rising-less Utah team went into the Coliseum and delivered a knockout punch to the No. 18 Trojans.

GUESS ‘HOOS BACK

In a battle between two perennial college basketball teams, Virginia vs. No. 10 UNC went the distance. The ‘Hoos were just 1-5 entering the matchup and played spoiler to the Tar Heels’ perfect season.

BAMA IS STILL BAMA

Despite an early season stumble, Alabama continues to prove that it has a legitimate path to the college football playoff. The Crimson Tide’s most recent resume-booster was a win over No. 17 Tennessee, boosting it into the AP Top 10.

IOWA GETS ROBBED

It’s Iowa football — of course it’s going to be weird. The Hawkeyes’ hopes of an 11-1 season were dashed Saturday after some bizarre late-game officiating gave Minnesota the win. This was also a blow to Penn State’s strength of schedule, which could come into play should the Nittany Lions, Buckeyes, and Wolverines all finish with the same record.

MICHIGAN DELETES SPARTY

Michigan might be the best team in the country. It rolled into East Lansing and easily took care of the Spartans, further sending their program into disarray. A bizarre scoreboard error also highlighted just how down Michigan State is right now. The 49-0 final score was quite crooked.
