Florida tight end target commits to Alabama instead

||

Despite a strong push from the Florida Gators over the summer, Carrollton  (Georgia) four-star tight end Caleb Odom will sign with the Alabama Crimson Tide in the winter.

Odom announced his decision on Saturday, picking Alabama over Florida Florida, Miami, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The Gators began recruiting him more as a receiver-tight end hybrid, which helped their chances, according to All Gators, but it wasn’t enough to lure him away from playing for Nick Saban and regularly competing for a national championship.

Fortunately, Florida landed a commitment from Amir Jackson in June, so the Gators are set at tight end. Jerrae Hawkins and Izaiah Williams are the two receivers under commitment. Missing out on a top-100 recruit in Odom isn’t ideal, but losing to Alabama in the recruiting world is bound to happen once in a while.

All Gators suggests that Florida wide receiver coach Billy Gonzalez could look to flip an elite X-receiver rather than grabbing a developmental piece.

The 2024 recruiting class is already up to 20 commitments, so adding random pieces is reckless at this point. UF is doing just fine recruiting pass catchers with the new staff.
