Jac Caglianone may have set the home run record for Florida on Saturday, but it was a rough day for the program overall as the Gators fell 15-2 to the Texas A&M Aggies in a seven-inning game shortened by the run rule.
Hurston Waldrep lasted just three innings for Florida, giving up a home run in the third and leaving the bases loaded with no outs for Blake Purnell in the fourth. Purnell showed flashes of his 2022 stuff on Tuesday against Florida State, but the Aggies had his number.
Hunter Haas doubled down the right-field line to score two, and he’s also the one who hit the home run off Waldrep in the third. Purnell was pulled after getting just one out between a single and two walks, and O’Sullivan turned to Nick Ficarotta to get out of the inning.
Fic gave up two more runs before finally getting out of the fourth, but the score was 9-0 with the run rule looming.

Jac Caglianone hit his record-breaking 27th home run in the top of the fifth, and it really couldn’t have come at a worse time. Fortunately, Florida has another home series on the schedule, so fans can just pretend and give him a standing ovation the next time he comes up to bat in Condron Family Ballpark.
Anthony Ursitti came in for Ficarrotta in the sixth, which sparked another never-ending inning for the Aggies offense. A three-run homer with no outs brought in true freshman Yoel Tejeda Jr., who gave up three more runs before getting out of the inning.
With a 15-1 score on the books, Sully was just looking to end the game, so he began pinch-hitting the reserves. Dale Thomas, Ty Evans, Matt Prevesk and Rene Lastres all hit in the seventh before the game finally came to a close.
Thomas scored after singling and advancing around the bases on a pair of wild pitches, but no comeback was in store for the Gators.
