It’s just weeks away from the start of the college basketball season, and as such, we’re starting to get some of the preseason awards watch lists trickle out. In the case of Ohio State, with some significant returning talent, that means some of the Buckeye players are being named before all the fun starts.
One of those is forward Justice Sueing who was one of 20 players named to the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year for 2022. The award, in its eighth year, goes to the Division I basketball player judged to be the best small forward annually and is handed out by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Sueing, a Honolulu, Hawaii native, came to Ohio State as a transfer from Cal before the 2019-2020 season but had to sit out a year because of the transfer rules. He burst onto the scene last season as a starter for all 31 games and showed a versatile and physical style of play that fits well into the Big Ten. He averaged 10.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last year but had some games where he flashed even more potential. He will be counted on as more of a scoring threat this season as a team captain and third-year player for the Buckeyes.
