Welp.
Penn State went into the Big House and had their shot at knocking off the Buckeyes, but the Nittany Lions fell up short, falling 33-24 to No. 5 Ohio State.
For the most part, the Nittany Lions did what they need to do to win the game. The defense — despite giving up 33 points — played out of their minds, keeping the offense in the game. Meanwhile, the offense didn’t play all too poorly either, to the tune of 361 passing yards and 24 points. But three turnovers — a Noah Cain fumble, Sean Clifford interception, and a Clifford fumble which led to a scoop-and-score was too much to overcome.
Penn State had their chances. They led for much of the first half before giving up the lead because of the aforementioned Clifford fumble. They scored a touchdown late in the third quarter, which put the game at 27-24 heading into the fourth quarter. But unfortunately, Penn State didn’t make the plays in the fourth quarter. They had two drives where a touchdown would have given them the lead, but they couldn’t convert on either.
Outside of the turnovers, the biggest issue? Like most of the season, Penn State couldn’t run the ball. John Lovett led the team in carries with 13, but was only able to muster 20 yards out of it. As a whole, the Nittany Lions finished with 33 rushing yards on 29 carries — good for a meager 1.1 yards per rush.
After last weekend, it was a much better showing for Penn State. But for a program that has been wanting to get over the Ohio State hump since 2018, it was more of the same this year — good, but not good enough.
