Badgers complete the sweep against Penn State
No. 6 Wisconsin finished off the sweep of No. 17 Penn State on Saturday night with a 4-1 drubbing. The Badgers shut down Penn State’s offense all weekend.
First Period
Penn State struck just one minute into the game with a goal from Jimmy Dowd Jr. on a rebound chance. Wisconsin was able to tie the game with 6:25 left in the opening frame on a snipe from Anthony Kehrer. The game remained tied after the first period.
Second Period
Wisconsin took its first lead of the game midway through the second period as Christian Fitzgerald scored on a 2-on-0 rush.
Late in the second, Wisconsin’s Brady Cleveland took a major penalty for a check to the head, resulting in a five-minute power play for the Lions. Penn State could not find a consistent attack on the power play.
Third Period
Almost immediately after killing the penalty, the Badgers extended their lead to 3-1 on a redirection from Charlie Stramel. The Lions could not mount a comeback in the third, and Jack Horbach scored on the empty net for Wisconsin with just two seconds remaining.
Standings and Such
Penn State remains sixth in the Big Ten in points and point percentage following the loss. The Nittany Lions are No. 19 in the Pairwise, which has them outside the NCAA Tournament picture entering holiday break.

Penn State will be on holiday break for the next four weeks. The next scheduled game is at home against Army on January 6.
