Lions have now dropped 4 straight Big Ten games
Penn State hockey was swept by Michigan State this weekend, dropping the second game 7-3. The Lions have now lost four straight conference games in regulation.
First Period
It was a quick start for the Lions, with Aiden Fink opening the scoring at 4:22 of the first.
The early momentum did not last for long, as the Spartans tied the game midway through the first on a goal by Karsen Dorwart. Joey Larson followed up with a goal on the power play to give Michigan State its first lead of the game, and Red Savage scored on a redirected shot with 4:36 left until the intermission. MSU led 3-1 after one period.
Second Period
Michigan State’s quick strike offense struck again early in the second period, as Artyom Levshunov and Gavin O’Connell scored two goals just 1:17 apart.
Jacques Bouquot finally stopped the bleeding for Penn State, deflecting a point shot by Dylan Gratton into the back of the net. Reed Lebster extended the Spartans’ lead back to four with two minutes left in the period.
Third Period
Christian Berger cut the deficit to 6-3 just two minutes into the third off a great pass by Xander Lamppa. Nash Nienhaus scored for Michigan State at 14:35 to make it 7-3 in favor of the Spartans.
