THE HIGHLIGHTS
THE TALE
Evans’ recruitment is one that really only gained steam fairly recently. He’s picked up an offer back on June 26 after taking an unofficial visit and working out for coaches, a workout that reportedly went very very well. He then returned for Penn State’s win over Auburn on the Sept. 17 and from that point on, the momentum has swung firmly in the Nittany Lions’ favor after being a Rutgers lean previously.
OUTLOOK
Speed, speed, speed is the thing to keep an eye on here. Evans plays quarterback in high school, so he’ll have to learn the nuances of the wide receiver position from Taylor Stubblefield. But this one is all about projection and the athletic profile is clearly there. Evans is a prolific track athlete both in the hurdles and the long and triple jumps. Ironically, Evans is about as far opposite from Parker Washington, the last wideout PSU plucked from Texas, as you can get. While they’re both likely slot wide receivers long time, Evans needs to get stronger through the lower half and tighten up things like route running and high pointing the ball, things Washington had nearly mastered by the time he arrived on campus. If Stubblefield can help him refine the finer aspects of the position, Evans could be a major weapon for Penn State in a few years.
