Ohio State baseball starts the season with a 3-0 win against UConn

When there is a coaching change, it’s always important for the team to get off to a good start, and that’s exactly what happened for Ohio State baseball and new head coach,Bill Mosiello. The Buckeyes shut out Connecticut, winning 3-0 in their season opener.

The story was all about OSU pitchers, as the three of them combined to allow just four total hits. Starter Isaiah Coupet was dominant, going six strong innings, striking out nine while allowing just one hit and one walk.

Relievers Jacob Gehring and London Beidelschies finished off the Huskies, with Beidelschies pitching the final two frames to get the save.

Offensively, three players had more than one hit including catcher Andrew Cole, third baseman Nick Erwin, and shortstop Henry Kaczmar. Both Cole and Kaczmar drove in the Ohio State runs.

It was a great start to the season, against a very solid opponent in UConn, who was the preseason favorite to win the Big East.

The Buckeyes get back out on the diamond this afternoon at 4 p.m. EST in game two of a four-game set.
