Ohio State football odds against Western Kentucky

Game day is almost here and the Ohio State Buckeyes are hosting the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Saturday at 4:00 P.M. ET in Columbus, Ohio. Last week Ohio State earned an underwhelming win over the Youngstown State Penguins to the tune of 35-7. Western Kentucky is also coming off its own underwhelming victory against a lesser opponent in the Houston Christian Huskies, 52-22.

To the casual college football fan, the Buckeyes versus the Hilltoppers isn’t the most attractive match-up, but Western Kentucky is actually 2-0 and was the preseason favorite to win the C-USA this season. Ohio State should still dominate, but this game will tell us more about the Buckeyes than most realize.

Our friends at BetMGM have posted their odds for the game and Ohio State is a 27.5-point favorite and the total sits at 63.5 points. At this point, with the Buckeyes 0-2 against the spread, it’s tough to tell someone to run to the window, but I do lean towards Ohio State. Trends typically show that the spreads grow larger closer to game time and the reason this is important is the fact that there is a large difference between 27.5 points and what will likely be 28 points by kickoff. With 28 points being a key number, my recommendation for anyone looking at placing a wager on the Buckeyes is to do it now.

I do not have strong feelings on the total either, but I do lean toward taking the over at 63.5 points. It is a common practice to take the over if you lean the favorite, but another good reason is that the Hilltoppers can move the football and could get on the board more than people think. Their contests have surpassed this number both times.
