Ohio State women's basketball beats Michigan, clinches outright Big Ten title

||

The Big Ten women’s basketball regular-season title will belong to Ohio State and only Ohio State after the Buckeyes used a big second half to avenge its only loss of the conference season with a 67-51 win over Michigan.

Through the first half, it looked like the Wolverines were going to stay with OSU for the entire contest. Both teams entered the locker room with just 22 points each in a bit of a defensive battle. That, however, gave way to a 45 point second half outburst by Ohio State thanks again to a bevy of turnovers forced that led to easy baskets.

The Buckeyes scored 27 points in the third quarter to set the tone and take a nine point lead heading into the last quarter. Things kept going from there, and Ohio State was able to win its first outright conference championship since the 2009-10 season (because of sanctions lobbied for the 2017-18 season).

Jacy Sheldon led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting. She was joined by Cotie McMahon (18) and Celeste Taylor (12) in ending with double figures.

With the win, Ohio State improves to 25-3 overall and 16-1 in the conference. It’s been quite the year and it isn’t over yet. The Buckeyes will now travel to Iowa City to take on the Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes Sunday.
