Oklahoma Sooners find power in run-rule win over BYU Cougars

||

In Oklahoma’s 8-0 win over BYU, the Sooners hit three home runs and recorded a double for four extra base hits. After averaging just 1.67 extra base hits in their three-game series against Texas, the Sooners put on a power display in game one against the Cougars.

Jayda Coleman hit a three-run home run to get the scoring going, and Cydney Sanders hit a walk-off three-run home run of her own to close the game. Kasidi Pickering hit a solo shot and Rylie Boone recorded a double.

When the Sooners are at their best, they’re getting power displays from a variety of sources. Their depth is their strength. They can string together base runners like nobody else, which is what leads to their big innings.

Kelly Maxwell’s one-hitter was as impressive as Oklahoma’s power surge against the Cougars. BYU came into the game fourth in Big 12 play in scoring, averaging 5.13 runs per game. Maxwell allowed one hit and one walk while striking out five.

Despite what happened a week ago in Austin, this team is the favorite to win the national title, and their efforts on Thursday night are a quick reminder that they’re still the standard in college softball.
