The Oklahoma Sooners coaching and recruiting staff are flourishing on the recruiting trail. Though it took a while for the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes to get going, 2025 and 2026 have been up and running for some time.
Kevin Sperry broke the ice in the 2025 recruiting class, committing before the 2024 class earned its first commitment. And then, before the 2023 summer was over, Jonathan Hatton committed to the 2026 Recruiting Class. Well, we haven’t even reached the summer before the 2025 class signs their national letters of intent and Oklahoma has picked up its first commitment in the 2027 cycle.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, Denton Guyer’s Zane Rowe committed to Oklahoma on Sunday evening. Rowe’s commitment continues the trend of Sooner pledges to join Brent Venables and his staff early in the recruiting cycle.
Rowe is a 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive lineman out of Denton Guyer High School, the same program that produced Jackson Arnold and Peyton Bowen.

As a freshman, Rowe looked right at home in Texas 6A football. His size and strength held up against the top programs in the state and he displayed good awareness for the football. Rowe did a great job setting the edge at the point of attack. As he continues to grow and improve his toolbox, he’ll become an even more devastating player.
Rowe is an elite national prospect. In addition to the Sooners’ offer, he holds 18 Power Four offers. As a freshman. It’s very early in the recruiting cycle, so more teams could try and persuade Rowe to flip his commitment. But considering he only received his offer back in March and was already wanting to commit to Oklahoma, says a lot.
Recruiting sites don’t have Rowe rated yet, but people project him to be a blue-chip prospect by the time he signs with the Sooners. Like they are in the 2026 recruiting class, the Oklahoma Sooners are off to a great start in 2027.
