Oklahoma Sooners with most Power Five wins since 2000

It is no secret the Oklahoma Sooners have been one of the top programs in all of College football since the turn of the century.

Under then-second-year head coach, Bob Stoops, the Sooners shocked the college football world by winning the national championship. That came after their worst decade ever. But the train didn’t stop there.

It kept on moving down the tracks, and they kept winning. Ultimately winning 14 conference championships during that span and playing for three more national championships and four College Football Playoffs. In fact, no other team has won more Power Five games since 2000 than the Oklahoma Sooners.

It hasn’t all been perfect, though. The Sooners had a few down seasons like in 2005, 2009, 2014, and 2022. But overall, no one has had more success on the field.

Now, the only thing missing is national titles.

Their success has only resulted in one national championship, which doesn’t seem real. Sooner fans are craving for Oklahoma to get back on top. They believe they have the right guy for the job in Brent Venables to get them there. Venables was on the 2000 staff but also won two national championships while coaching the defense with the Clemson Tigers.

It’s now up to him to show he is a head coach and not just an all-time great defensive coordinator. If he’s able to do that, when the end of the decade comes, the Sooners will likely have broken the ice and won that eight national title.
