While Penn State football’s season is on a bit of a hiatus, many of the Nittany Lions’ commits are battling for state titles. And to get to a state championship, you’ve got to win your district or regional championships first.
Belle Vernon running back Quinton Martin helped lead his team to a 26-0 victory over Avonworth in the WPIAL 3A title game — its second championship in as many years. Martin, a Class of 2024 commit, did not score but picked up 74 all-purpose yards through both the rushing and passing attack.

The 11-1 Leopards will now play Hickory in the PIAA Class 3A semifinals. Martin is now 42 yards away from eclipsing 1,000 rushing yards on the season. Following this playoff run, he is set to enroll early at Penn State.
Class of 2025 athlete Tiqwai Hayes also helped bring a WPIAL title home. His Aliquippa Quips dispatched McKeesport 35-21 and now advance to the PIAA 4A semifinals. Hayes played a crucial role in the championship win, hauling in the game-sealing interception at Acrisure Stadium.

Hayes, who is primarily a running back, rushed for 114 yards on 17 touchdowns in the win. His 5,485 rushing yards are now the most in school history — and he’s a junior.
Offensive lineman Cooper Cousins’ high school career came to a close following McDowell’s 41-7 defeat to North Allegheny. But, he is set to play in the All-American Bowl in January before early enrolling at Penn State.
Class of 2024 cornerback Jon Mitchell has not been getting as much hype as some of his classmates, but his senior season tape speaks for itself. It looks like he’s playing the game in slow motion compared to everyone else.
The Florida prospect has totaled three interceptions, 14 PBUs, 41 tackles, and 14 tackles for loss this season. His Mandarin Mustangs will now play in the FHSAA FA state semifinals against Monarch.
