this is not where most predicted
The Nittany Lions are not included in this week’s initial college football playoff rankings, despite predictions they’d be as high as top 20.
A week after the team’s third straight loss, Penn State fell to #22 in the AP Poll on Sunday. They look forward to bouncing back this week at Maryland, where PSU has won straight and comes in as the favorite.
PSU’s former opponents Wisconsin (W, week 1) and Iowa (L, week 6) squeaked into the playoff at #21 and #22, respectively, and fellow Big Ten West member Minnesota is ahead of them at #20. Former Penn State opponent Auburn, whom the Nittany Lions beat in week three, is also in the rankings at #13.
fellow Big Ten East members Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State are all in the top ten (#7, #3, and #5) and are all still vying to represent the conference in the playoffs.
