Penn State ran out of gas, and the Rebels poured it on as the game closed out.
The Nittany Lions will close their season out with a 10-3 record. This is the first double-digit win season for James Franklin that doesn’t end with 11 wins. Here are your takeaways.
1: Same Offense
The Nittany Lions were playing well to start the game, on both sides of the ball. Penn State was getting chunk plays on the ground, and going after Jaxon Dart on defense.
2: Different Day
As the game wore on, however, Ole Miss figured out they could stack the box, force Drew Allar to beat them with his arm, and well, you saw how that went against Ohio State and Michigan.
3: Wide Receiver
Were nowhere to be found. Maybe, if the first catch for a wide receiver comes before midway in the fourth quarter, this game looks differently. But Alas, that didn’t happen. And, as a result, the offense stalled, the defense got tired, and Ole Miss ran away with it when it was all said and done.
One might be inclined to point out how the defense wasn’t able to stop the Rebels either, but, when you have three optouts, two of which are your starting corners, and a fourth starter goes down with injury in the game, there’s only so much the defense could have done. It was up to the offense to keep pace with Ole Miss, and they couldn’t do it.
