The Oklahoma Sooners are losing six players from last year’s roster via the transfer portal or due to eligibility.
As it stands, Oklahoma has seven scholarship players locked in for next year. Much like last offseason, the Sooners will have to do some heavy lifting in the portal to not only fill out their roster but also find some impact players. The Sooners lost four of their top five scorers to graduation or the portal.
Jalon Moore would be the fifth, but he is currently testing the NBA Draft waters to get feedback before deciding to return to Norman or stay in the draft.
One area the Sooners need improvement from heading into the SEC and the 2024 season is in their front court. Sam Godwin had another solid season as a role player, but he’s not a difference-maker, and he’s meant to play 20-30 minutes a night.
Enter Brandon Garrison, a former four-star prospect who played for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Garrison is a true center with athleticism and a nice touch around the basket. Garrison showcased the potential to become a star in a power conference. He averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in his lone season in Stillwater.
He finished his freshman season in the top five in the Big 12 in blocks and in the top 10 in rebounding percentage. Garrison started 29 of Oklahoma State’s 32 games last season.
He’s from Del City, about 30 minutes from Norman. So there’s a lot of intrigue in staying in the state and returning even closer to home. He wouldn’t be the first Cowboys athlete to transfer to the Sooners in recent years. Trace Ford, Lexi Keys, and Kelly Maxwell each made the move across the Bedlam line.
Along with frontcourt help, Oklahoma is also looking for help on the perimeter with Javian McCollum, Otega Oweh, and Milos Uzan, who are all in the transfer portal. That’s where hosting Virginia Tech transfer Sean Pedulla comes into the picture.
Pedulla, a native of Oklahoma, entered the portal with one year of eligibility after spending the last three seasons with the Hokies. Over those three years, he averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game, shooting 35% from three. As a junior this season, Pedulla led Virginia Tech in scoring at 16.4 points per game and assists with 4.2 per game, becoming one of the premier college basketball guards. He was named to the All-ACC Third team for his efforts this season. Pedulla has experience, can run an offense, and is a floor spacer with the ability to shoot.
The Sooners have apparently moved the needle with Pedula. On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw issued a prediction favoring Oklahoma in the recruitment of the Hokies guard.

Oklahoma could use commitments from both. With both in town this weekend, the Sooners will try to put themselves in a position to give both native Oklahomans something to think about.
