Everything went right for the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Offensively, this was the most explosive they’ve looked in a couple of years, and defensively, they were disruptive and opportunistic as they forced three Texas Tech turnovers.
For their performances in this game, Caleb Williams (Offensive Player of the Week) and Mario Williams (Newcomer of the Week) earned Big 12 weekly honors.
Caleb Williams was incredible on Saturday throwing for 402 yards and six touchdowns. He was six of seven on throws 20 or more yards down the field for 218 yards and three touchdowns. All six of his touchdown throws came on passes more than 10 yards down the field. He’s accounted for 18 touchdowns this season (14 passing and 4 rushing) and seems to get better every single week.
This is the second offensive player of the week honor that Caleb Williams has been awarded this season. He was also given the newcomer of the week award for his performance against the Texas Longhorns.

Mario Williams came back from an injury that kept him out of the Kansas game and made some huge plays and incredible catches in the Sooners win. Williams caught five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, averaging 20 yards per reception.
The true freshman wide receiver had an average depth of target (aDot) of 14.7 yards on his six targets to help provide another explosive option in the passing game next to Marvin Mims. It was just the second time this season that his aDot averaged more than 10 yards in a game. Against Tech, Williams showed the promise that was on display in the Spring game as well as Fall camp.

The Oklahoma Sooners offense has been dynamic since Caleb Williams took over in the Texas game. Their downfield passing game has taken off and the team has scored 50 or more points in three of their last four games.
With true freshmen providing the bulk of the offense on Saturday, the future is bright in Norman with Caleb Williams and Mario Williams on the attack.
