COLLEGE KICKERS

Penn State went to the transfer portal for a kicker last season and it ended up working out tremendously well, as Columbia product Alex Felkins brought a consistent competency on field goals and PATs. With Felkins out of eligibility, the Nittany Lions once again went to the transfer portal well for kicking help, landing Tulsa kicker Chase Meyer.

Meyer was a true sophomore for the Golden Hurricanes in 2023, meaning he’ll have three years to play two for the Nittany Lions. With punter Riley Thompson being given two extra seasons of eligibility, it should lock in the same punter and kicker for Penn State for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Like Felkins, Meyer was super consistent this past season, making 17-of-20 field goals and only missing one PAT. While Meyer lacks a super big leg at this point (his long was 47 yards), there’s certainly the opportunity for growth there over the next two years. But honestly — like I said in my Five Things I Know I Know article this past summer — if you can have a college kicker that’s consistent from ~45 yards and in, you really can’t complain. Meyer has done that to this point.
