2nd Test Day 1 ENG vs IND: Ton up Rahul, Rohit rule the roost as India dominate on opening day of Lord’s test

Xtra Time Web Desk: KL Rahul struck a magnificent 127 no while Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant 83 as India dominated the opening day of the second Test at Lord’s, after being put in to bat by England captain Joe Root.

James Anderson (2-52), who was doubtful to play on the morning of the game, dismissed Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara in a superb six-over spell prior to tea to wrest the initiative for the home team.

But KL Rahul and Virat Kohli (42) was involved in a 117 runs partnership  for the third wicket before Ollie Robinson (1-47) picked up the India captain, edging to Joe Root at first slip. India at stumps on Day 1 is 276/3.

Earlier, openers Rahul and Rohit (83) produced top class batting against some skilful England bowling, and in helpful, overcast conditions. The pair shared in a 126-run stand which showcased an impressive combination of technique, patience and good judgement.

Rohit, who looked all set to score a hundred before he was undone by a Anderson delivery which moved in late to bowl him through the gate. The veteran bowler also got rid of an out of form Cheteshwar Pujara soon after.

England did get another breakthrough towards the end of day’s play with the second new ball. Ollie Robinson induced an edge from Virat  Kohli off to Root at first slip.
