Arsenal gives Mikel Arteta £40.5m transfer boost amid announcement update on Rafa Benitez

Arsenal have been given a boost in the club’s attempts to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, after Everton’s recent turmoil, which will please the Arsenal fan base.

Calvert-Lewin has admitted it’s a dream to play Champions League football in the past, but the hopes of doing that whilst a player at Everton seems highly unlikely.

The Gunners have been pushing for a top-four spot throughout the majority of this season, and have been presented with a great opportunity to continue the push for Champions League qualification if they are victorious against Everton on Monday evening.

With the north London side being heavily linked to the England international, The Gunners’ top-four push will certainly help secure Calvert-Lewin’s signature.

In an interview with TalkSport towards the end of last season, he said: “As a club, we’re moving in the right direction and of course it’s a dream of mine to play in the Champions League and somewhere, I believe I’m capable.”

Everton’s chances of playing in the prestigious European competition is currently a far fetch with the Toffees having failed to win a single game since September as they limber at fourteenth in the Premier League table.

The club’s situation is in such a dire state that Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has been forced to call an emergency board meeting with Rafa Benitez’s future high on the agenda.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal will target the England striker as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette next summer.

With the Gunners on the fringes of Champions League qualification, Calvert-Lewin would certainly be a useful pawn to help secure a top-four spot for the north London side.

Eddie Nketiah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been criticised recently, which has strengthened the club’s need to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

And the prospect of Calvert-Lewin’s signature could be given a huge boost on Monday night if Arsenal are to beat Everton, who are reportedly on the verge of sacking Benitez.

Goodison Park has recently been a tough ground for Arsenal to visit, having not won at the stadium in four years, but the turmoil at the Merseyside club has presented a wonderful opportunity to end that record.
