Arsenal monitoring Lille’s top center-forward as striker search continues

Arsenal has reportedly been scouting Lille attacker Jonathan David as part of their summer transfer plans.

With Alexandre Lacazette’s contract expiring at the end of the season and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling, the Gunners are keen to sign a new No.9 in the summer transfer window.

Aubameyang appeared to have recovered his form earlier in the season, but the 32-year-old has now gone five games without a goal after failing to score in Thursday night’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton has been mentioned as a possible signing, although he might cost at least £60 million to lure away from Goodison Park.

Arsenal are scouting several candidates for the centre-forward position, according to the Evening Standard, with Lille’s David being one of them.

The Gunners have been keeping an eye on the 21-year-old at his previous club, Gent, and have done so again this season in France.

David has scored 10 goals in 16 league games for Lille this season, making him the current Ligue 1 top scorer.

He, like 24-year-old Calvert-Lewin, is reported to fit the age profile of striker Arsenal is searching for.

Lacazette’s future, meanwhile, remains uncertain, with the Frenchman admitting that his agents are looking into possible options away from the Emirates.

Eddie Nketiah, a Gunners academy product whose current contract expires in the summer, has reportedly turned down the club’s latest contract offer.
