Arsenal set to make huge injury decision as star misses training and is a doubt for Leicester City and Everton clash

||

Arsenal hopes to have Thomas Partey available for Saturday’s game against Leicester City, but the midfielder will not be rushed back.

Partey suffered a thigh injury in the build-up to last Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, missing the 3-1 loss at the Emirates.

The Ghana international was also missing on Saturday, when Arsenal came from behind to beat Aston Villa at Villa Park, reclaiming first place in the Premier League.

Partey did not train with Mikel Arteta’s team on Monday, and the club will evaluate him further in the coming days.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are hesitant to give a timetable for his return against Leicester this weekend.

With January signing Jorginho deputising against City and Villa, and impressing in Saturday’s comeback victory over Unai Emery’s side, the club is also under less pressure to bring him back into the fold.

If Partey is unable to travel to the King Power Stadium, it is hoped that he will make his comeback against Everton, Arsenal’s game in hand on rivals City, which takes place at the Emirates next Wednesday.

During a press conference last Friday, Arteta did not address a potential return date for the midfielder. ‘We have to assess him again today,’ he told reporters.

‘He had some discomfort, some muscle discomfort. We need to evaluate him and see how he is.’

If Partey is unavailable this weekend, Jorginho, who arrived from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, is expected to continue in midfield.

In injury time against Villa, the Italy international rattled the crossbar with a superb effort that deflected off Emiliano Martinez and into the back of the net.

‘I certainly didn’t see that from him – scoring from deep!’ That’s fantastic,’ Arteta said after the game.

‘The most important quality he possesses is that he makes the rest of the people look better, better than you actually are.

‘He’s already had a huge impact on the boys and the staff, and hopefully our supporters will see that and provide him with the support he requires. ‘I thought he was fantastic today.’
