The outcome of Arsenal’s summer transfer window will be decisive in Mikel Arteta’s reign as manager.
Arsenal endured a disastrous first full campaign under the inexperienced Spanish boss, failing to build on the high of their record 14th FA Cup triumph.
The Gunners failed to qualify for European competition entirely for the first time in 25 years after another lowly eighth-place Premier League finish.
And the nadir came in the Europa League semi-final exit to Villarreal, coached by Arteta’s predecessor Unai Emery.
Arteta must be offered funds this summer if he is to rebuild a squad capable of challenging domestically again next season.
Here, Mirror Football has rounded up the latest Arsenal transfer news…
Gunners target Renato Sanches
Arsenal and Liverpool are both showing an interest in Lille midfielder Renato Sanches, according to reports in France.
Sanches, 23, was one of the most impressive performers at Euro 2020 with Portugal.
L’Equipe claim the Gunners are keen on Sanches, who has built back up his reputation after an unexpected title success with Lille.
Arsenal have already built a positive relationship with the Ligue 1 club after previously completing deals for Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Magalhaes.
Lacazette decision made
Arsenal are reportedly ‘desperate’ to offload striker Alexandre Lacazette in the summer window.
Arteta wants to raise funds to bolster his squad and sees the Frenchman as a dispensable option.
That’s according to the Transfer Window Podcast, where it is claimed the Gunners are ‘aggressively’ trying to sell some of their unwanted higher paid stars this summer.
Lacazette was Arsenal’s top scorer in the last campaign but Arteta is said to have decided that his Emirates future is over.
Guendouzi sale close
Matteo Guendouzi is closing in on a move to Marseille, bringing an end to his exile at the Emirates.
The French midfielder spent last season out on loan at Hertha Berlin after a bust-up with Arteta in a defeat to Brighton in June 2020.
According to Goal, Guendouzi will initially join Marseille on loan for the 2021/22 season, but an obligation to buy clause means his Arsenal career is effectively over.
It is added that Arsenal will receive around £10m in total for the 22-year-old’s sale.
