Arsene Wenger talks about returning to Arsenal as he reacts to woeful start to the season

In spite of Arsenal’s shaky start, Wenger is optimistic that the club will bounce back from its three losses during the opening weeks of the new Premier League season.

As a result of their losses to newly-promoted Brentford, Champions League holders Chelsea and Premier League champions Manchester City, Arsenal sit bottom of the table with a -9 goal difference.

As a result of a number of injuries to first-team players and a number of Covid cases, Mikel Arteta has not been able to field anything close to his strongest XI.

Arsenal will be back in action following the international break against Norwich City, who are also winless this season.

Despite Arsenal’s disastrous start to the season – their worst in 67 years – Wenger remains confident they are headed in the right direction.

Wenger told BILD LIVE on Friday that the club is in good shape. It was a tough two games [against Chelsea and Manchester City], but the team has potential and I hope they can recover.

Arsene Wenger is often linked with a return to Arsenal whenever the club faces difficulty, but the chairman has played down the possibility of returning to the Emirates to help the club out of its current crisis.

‘I’m 71,’ he said. The years I spent with this club was the best of my life. As of now, I am just a fan.

After losing to Brentford on the first day of the season, the side rebounded to beat them 4-0 in a friendly on Thursday, with both Ben White and Gabriel making their first appearances since their injury.

When asked how it felt to have both of his centre-backs get game time, Arteta replied: ‘Really good.’ It’s a good idea to play the game since we don’t have any big injuries, they’ve got the minutes, and we can work on some things.

According to him, the squad will change every day, but hopefully, we can bring back three to four players who have been missing a lot in recent weeks, and also hope we can avoid losing anyone to the international break.
