Asia Cup 2023: 5 Super 4s matches likely to be shifted from Colombo to Hambantota

Xtra Time Web Desk: The ongoing Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s stage is likely to be relocated to Hambantota. Five out of six matches originally scheduled in Colombo will be shifted to the coastal town due to heavy rainfall in the Sri Lankan capital. The Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium is set to take over hosting duties from September 9 to 15 to avoid weather-related disruptions.

Despite Colombo not being in its regular monsoon season, recent days have witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall and flooding in the northern areas. This adverse weather has prompted the need for relocation.

One of the most anticipated clashes of the Super 4s stage is the India vs. Pakistan encounter, scheduled for September 10, which was originally set to take place in Colombo will now likely to be played at Hambantota.

Hambantota, hosted ODIs since 2011, hosted the initial two matches of a 3-match ODI series between Pakistan and Afghanistan on August 22 and 24, while the final match was held at Colombo’s P Premadasa Stadium, resulting in a 3-0 victory for Pakistan.

It’s worth noting that the Asia Cup 2023 final is slated to be held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
