Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian Cricket Team commenced their preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on Friday, initiating a five-day training camp at Alur. Led by Captain Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid, the squad addressed persistent issues. KL Rahul’s fitness took precedence due to a training injury.
The training camp involved the Indian cricket coaching staff, NCA physios, and trainers. Commencing at 10 am, the day began with warm-up exercises and light fitness drills. Except for KL Rahul, all players undertook the yo-yo test before joining. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill focused on match simulations during net practice, facing a challenging spell from Mohammed Siraj.
KL Rahul, nursing an injury, participated actively in fitness drills and training. Although he can bat, concerns arise regarding his keeping abilities. Backup keepers Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are in the mix. Vice-captain Hardik Pandya had an extended bowling session under Coach Rahul Dravid’s watchful eye. Suryakumar Yadav engaged with local cricketers, while Mohammed Shami and Coach Rahul Dravid held in-depth discussions. Other players reported but didn’t bowl on Day 1, including Umran Malik, Aniket Choudhary, Rahul Chahar, and Sai Kishore.
