Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India batter KL Rahul is all set to miss Asia Cup 2023 opener against Pakistan in Kandy. Selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar on Monday confirmed that KL Rahul is not fully fit. The batter from Karnataka is likely to be fit before the second or third match of the tournament.
Rahul has been out of action for almost four months but has been cleared by the medical staffs of NCA to be included in Asia Cup 2023 squad. Since Rahul is not hundred percent fit, Sanju Samson has been named as a travelling reserve.
“Shreyas Iyer has been declared fully fit. It is great news. KL Rahul is carrying a niggle. But we expect him to get fit by the second or third game of the Asia Cup. These two are extremely important players for us,” Ajit Agarkar said.
Agarkar confirmed that it was not the old injury but a niggle which is expected to recover before the second or third match of the upcoming Asia Cup. Rahul had travelled to Germany to undergo a surgery. He injured his groin during the IPL 2023 match against RCB. Since returning back from Germany, Rahul has been rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
