Cameron Green likely to miss out the first test against India | INDvsAUS

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a further setback to the already injury-marred Australian cricket team, all-rounder Cameron Green is a doubtful starter for the first test against India starting at the VCA stadium in Nagpur from February 9. The tall all-rounder suffered a fractured finger during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa last year. He is unlikely to recover in time for the test series opener against India.

As per former Australian captain Steve Smith, Green didn’t bat in nets at the VCA Stadium but did some fitness training and also bowled along with captain Pat Cummins, Scott Boland and Lance Morris.

Not only Green, Australia will also be missing the services of fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc during the first Test – both of who are ruled out due to injuries. Now in absence of three out-right seamers, Australia might rope in an extra batter in either Matthew Renshaw or Peter Handscomb and will also be prompted to play two more spinners.

Fast bowler Scott Boland looks to be the front-runner to replace Hazzlewood. Steve Smith spoke highly about Boland and the Nagpur wicket might favour him. Lance Morris can also get a nod in playing XI but that will depend on the wicket. If the visitors decide to play an extra spinner than Ashton Agar or Todd Murphy will be included in playing XI.

All the Aussie spinners in the test squad – Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson had bowl next to the centre wicket.

The first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy starts from Thursday, February 9.
