Commonwealth Games 2022: Spectacular opening ceremony; PV Sindhu & Manpreet Singh lead India contingent

Xtra Time Web Desk: A spectacular opening ceremony kick-started the Commonwealth Games 2022 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Thursday. July 28. The 22nd edition of the Games will feature 5000 athletes from 72 nations participating in 20 disciplines across 11 days. The closing ceremony of the Games will be held on August 08.

Two-time Olympic medallist shuttler PV Sindhu and Indian men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh led the Indian contingent during the marchpast. England’s Prince Charles who stepped in for Queen Elizabeth II declared the Games Open. The sport events are all set to begin from 29th July, Friday.

As many as 215 athletes will represent India at the CWG 22 in 16 sports disciplines. Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) will see a host of Indian athletes in action. Stars like PV Sindhu, Manika Batra, and Harmanpreet Kaur will take to the field. While Sindhu and Manika Bartra will be in action in individual events, Harmanpreet will lead India women’s cricket team at Edgbaston against Australia. For the first time ever, the quadrennial event will mark the debut of the Indian Women’s cricket team
