Arsenal has signed youngster Lino Da Cruz Sousa from West Bromwich Albion, indicating that the club is looking to the future.
The 16-year-old sensation was a part of the Baggies’ youth system, having played two seasons above his age group in their Under-18s. The defender, who is half-Brazilian, has already represented England at youth level.
Lino is an athletic full-back who reads the game well and has a lovely left foot, according to head coach Peter Gilbert.
“It’s not often that a 16-year-old plays an entire season with the 18s, but that’s a testament to his talent.”
According to reports Football Audit in London, Arsenal academy chief Per Mertesacker requested defensive reinforcements.
The left-back is a good fit for the position and can play further forward in midfield. Lino’s close control and dribbling ability had piqued the interest of several Premier League clubs.
Arsenal, on the other hand, has won the race for his signature in their first transaction of the transfer window. Manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping to add to his squad during the current transfer window.
Dusan Vlahovic of Fiorentina has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but the Spaniard will have to compete with Tottenham Hotspur and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the 21-year- old’s signature.
