ENG vs IND: Will James Anderson retire from International cricket after Old Trafford test? Former teammate don’t rule out possibility

Xtra Time Web Desk: Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison feels James Anderson could announce his retirement from international cricket after the final test of the ongoing series against India at Old Trafford. During a podcast on talkSPORT , Harmison said, “I’ve got a funny feeling, I don’t know what it is, but I really have got a funny feeling that Jimmy Anderson will retire at the end of Old Trafford.” 

The former England and Yorkshire bowler feels that Anderson would like to finish his illustrious career by taking the wicket of India captain Virat Kohli at Old Trafford. He reckons with the Ashes still another six months away, Anderson might be influenced to hang up his boots if England ends the series on a high at his home ground.

“I don’t think the Ashes will either go ahead or go ahead in such a way and I think Jimmy might just look at this and go ‘you know what, if I go to The Oval and bowl well and then I’ve got Old Trafford at the end, my illustrious career couldn’t get any better than to finish by knocking Virat Kohli over from the end I bowl at, which is named after me, and there’s potentially no Ashes in six months time,” Harmison added.

Anderson is the highest wicket-taker as a pacer in Test cricket. He has taken 630 wickets in 165 Tests. Glenn McGrath of Australia is the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 563 scalps.

The England pacer had already retired from ODI cricket in 2015.
