Focus on Cameron Green and Ashton Agar as Australia prepare for second test in Delhi | INDvAUS

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Australian cricket team is mulling playing three spinners for the second test match against India starting at the Arun Jaitley stadium from February 17. The visitors are thinking about playing either Ashton Agar or Matt Kuhnemann for the second test. Agar was in focus during Australia’s practice session at the VCA stadium in Nagpur. After the practice was washed away on Sunday as the VCA ground staff watered the square, the visitors turned up for an intense training session on Tuesday.

Australia Head Coach Andrew McDonald asked the batters for an optional practice session in Nagpur before travelling to Delhi for the 2nd Test starting Friday. All the top order batters except Steve Smith turned up for training. The likes of David Warner, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne looked in all sorts of trouble against Agar.

Another player in focus during the optional training session was all-rounder Cameron Green. The tall

cricketer looks to have recovered well as he was seen bowling for a long time at the nets on Monday.

Pat Cummins & co are facing a huge selection dilemma with Green. Australia’s plan with just four bowlers failed in Nagpur as India went on to score 400. Even though Green had a full session, he is still a doubtful starter. Australia medical team is still of the idea that he won’t be able to field at his best position in the gully with the finger still in recovery.

Hence, even though Mitchell Starc and Matt Kuhnemann available for selection, they have to sacrifice either a batter of a bowler. Whether Australia will go in with three spinners for Delhi test will depend on Cameron Green’s fitness. If the all-rounder is fit then he will share the new ball with Pat Cummins. The visitors can then play an extra third spinner.

It will not be the first time that Australia will be playing at test match in the sub-continent with three spinners. Last time they played with three spinners in the sub-continent was against Bangladesh at Chittagong.
