Four midfielders Arsenal can sign in January after Mikel Arteta transfer admission

Following Ainsleya Maitland-Niles’ loan move to AS Roma, Mikel Arteta has admitted that Arsenal are short on midfielders.

“We are very, very short at the moment,” Arteta said of Maitland-Niles’ departure.

To be fair, this cannot be the only argument for keeping a player, a player who has been developed and raised through our academy and who has been extremely patient in his pursuit of his dream.

“He was very straightforward with me, and I was able to comprehend the situation.” We believe it is a viable option. We’ll have to relocate and look for other options because we’re on a tight schedule.”

Now, footballaudit has put together a list of three midfielders the Gunners could target in the January transfer window as they look to improve their squad in the hopes of finishing in the top four.

Donny Van De Beek

Donny Van De Beek, the dutch playmaker will on the look out for a new club as his game time has been extremely limited despite the change in managers at the club.

The Daily Mail reports that seventeen first-team players are dissatisfied with the coaching regime at Carrington following the appointment of Ralf Rangnick to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Donny Van De Beek is reportedly one of the players who is dissatisfied, claiming that his playing time has been severely limited despite the club’s change in management.

Arsenal is in desperate need of a midfielder due to a player shortage, and a deal for Van De Beek would go a long way toward not only improving the squad’s depth but also its quality.

Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes, the Lyon maestro, has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent months, with the player himself confirming that the Gunners were interested in signing him last summer.

Arsenal have started talks with the French club, according to transfer expert Nicolo Schira, as technical director Edu looks to bring the 24-year-old to north London.

Schira wrote on Twitter: “Bruno Guimaraes, a midfielder for Lyon, is a target for Arsenal. Edu adores him and has begun negotiations to sign him.”

“Let’s see what happens,” he added. Every player on the transfer market has a price.

“It’s not going to be an easy deal for Arsenal, but Edu is working on it, and Aulas could sell Bruno Guimaraes if a big offer comes in.”

Guimaraes’ ability to move the ball between the lines and beat the press makes him an ideal fit for Arteta.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum of Paris Saint-Germain has also been mentioned as a possible target for the north London club.

Under Mauricio Pochettino’s tutelage, Wijnaldum has struggled to get consistent game time, at times finding himself behind Marco Verratti, Danilo Perreira, and Idrissa Gana Gueye.

According to reports, the Gunners are planning a’shock’ move for the Dutch international, who joined PSG less than seven months ago after leaving Liverpool.

In fact, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged his former club to sign Arteta, claiming that his experience would be beneficial to the young midfielder.

Wright said about Premier League Productions: “I came across the name Wijnaldum. That would be incredible. PSG has signed him on a loan deal.

“In the midfield, someone like that. Of that encounter. He has won the Premier League. Just to help out with the kids and a Sambi Lokonga to keep things going.

“Then they can add to the squad, and Arsenal can start challenging and challenging seriously all of a sudden.”

Renato Sanches

Lille’s best player Renato Sanches appears to be on his way out of the reigning Ligue 1 champions, with the Portuguese international admitting that both AC Milan and Arsenal have expressed interest in signing him.

“Milan and Arsenal are possibly interested,” he told L’Equipe via Get French Football News last month. “I spoke with my agent about it but I can’t say any more.”

“I simply know I’m prepared. If the offer comes in, I’ll consider it. Milan is a fantastic club, with a rich history and a refined aesthetic. They appeal to me greatly.”

However, during his two-and-a-half years with Lille, the former Bayern Munich star has a poor injury record, missing a total of 38 games.
