ICC Test Rankings: India crowned as No 1 team ahead of WTC Final

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian cricket team has been ranked as the No 1 test side in the latest ICC Test team rankings. Rohit Sharma led Indian team has pushed Australia behind ahead of the World Test Championship Final to be played at the Oval in June.

Australia led the test rankings with 122 points with India trailing them by three points (119). The annual rankings consider all series completed since May 2020, with series completed before May 2022 weighted at 50 percent and all subsequent series weighted at 100 percent.

It appears that there have been some changes in the Test rankings for cricket teams. Australia’s home series wins over Pakistan and New Zealand in 2019/20 are no longer considered, and their 4-0 win over England in 2021/22 has had its weighting halved. As a result, Australia’s ratings have dropped from 121 to 116.

India, on the other hand, received a two-point boost from 119 to 121 as their 2-0 defeat against New Zealand in 2019/20 is no longer considered in the rankings. Australia had risen to the top of the rankings under Pat Cummins’ captaincy after their 4-0 win over England in the home Ashes in January 2022. Prior to that, India was at the top of the rankings before their 2-0 loss to South Africa resulted in their loss of the top spot.

England’s form under the captaincy of Ben Stokes has helped them close the gap to second place from 13 points to just two. The weightage of their 4-0 Ashes defeat and the 1-0 series defeat away against West Indies have also been reduced. The rest of the rankings have remained unchanged.
