India at Tokyo Olympics: Ravi Dahiya cruise into S/F in men’s 57kg category; Deepak Punia also in the semis of 86kg freestyle

Xtra Time Web Desk: India’s Ravi Kumar Dahiya beat China’s Lin Zushen 6-3 to sail into the semi final men’s freestyle (86kg) at Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.  Deepak is one win away from assuring the country a medal and will now meet David Taylor of USA in the semi final. In another good news from the wrestling mat Ravi Kumar Dahiya too has sealed a place in the semi finals of men’s freestyle 57kg category. Ravi Kumar defeated Bulgarian gappler 14-4 in quarter finals. He will face Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan in the last four. Both semi finals will be held later in the day.

In the pre quarters Ravi got the better of Oscar Eduardo Tigreros of Colombia 13-2 in men’s freestyle 57kg. He completely dominated over his Colombian opponent and was declared winner with technical superiority to enter last 8. 

Deepak Punia had defeated Ekerekeme Agiomor of Nigeria in the pre quarters. Deepak won 12-1 and was declared winner on technical superiority.

Meanwhile Anshu Malik lost to two time World Championships medalist Iryana Kurachkina of Belarus 2-8 in 1st round. She will have to wait now to see if she can be in contention for repechage.
