Xtra Time Web Desk: On Sunday, April 15th, at the Wankhede Stadium, Suresh Raina demonstrated the true spirit of camaraderie as he assisted his former captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was battling with a knee injury after the IPL 2024 El Clasico. Dhoni, whose left leg was heavily strapped during the match against arch-rivals MI, found it challenging to navigate the stadium’s stairs due to soreness.
Raina, who was fulfilling his broadcast duties for the highly anticipated IPL 2024 clash between MI and CSK, stood by Dhoni’s side as the CSK players made their way out of the stadium towards the team bus after the intense encounter. A heartwarming video capturing Raina’s supportive gesture towards a limping Dhoni quickly went viral on social media platforms. Despite his discomfort, Dhoni appeared grateful as he tapped Raina’s back in appreciation before acknowledging the fans with a wave.

Having grappled with knee issues over the past few years, the 42-year-old former India captain underwent surgery after leading CSK to victory in IPL 2023. Dhoni’s dedication to rehabilitation and his determination to return to the IPL arena for the 2024 season has been hailed as a gesture of gratitude towards his fans.
Despite visible signs of discomfort, Dhoni’s on-field performance has been unwavering. During the match against MI, he showcased his prowess by smashing 20 runs off just 4 balls, including three consecutive sixes off Hardik Pandya in the final over, propelling the Super Kings to a formidable total of 206 runs. Dhoni’s resilience extended to his wicketkeeping duties throughout the entire 20 overs, ensuring support for Ruturaj Gaikwad in his debut IPL Clasico as captain.
Following their triumph over MI, CSK’s bowling coach, Eric Simons, shed light on Dhoni’s enduring battle with his knee injury, emphasizing Dhoni’s remarkable resilience and determination.

“Everyone else is more concerned about his injuries than he is. He’s one of the toughest individuals I’ve ever encountered. I don’t think anyone truly understands the extent of his pain. He just soldiers on and does what he does,” remarked Simons at the Wankhede Stadium.
CSK’s victorious defence of 206 runs solidified their position in the upper echelons of the IPL 2024 points table. The team is slated to face the Super Giants in Lucknow on Friday, April 19th.
