ISL 2021-22: ATK Mohun Bagan signs Hugo Boumous

Xtra Time Web Desk:  ATK Mohun Bagan on Thursday made a surprise announcement by signing the best attacking medio of the Indian Super League, Hugo Boumous for a multi year deal.  The Frenchman, who won the Golden Ball in 2020, was one of the best midfielders to play in the ISL last season has been acquired for 5 years .  Antonio Habas’s team’s attacking power has been sharpened as the footballer, who has been playing in India for several years, joins the Green Maroon team.  Hugo’s best quality is that though he is an attacking medio, but like the strikers he is very sharp around the opponent’s box.  He is capable of passing the ball at the target. ATK Mohun Bagan is building a strong team for the next season. The club has already signed Joni Kauko, who has played this year’s Euro Cup for Finland. 

Commenting on his new stint at ATK Mohun Bagan, Boumous said, “I know Kolkata as the Mecca of Indian football.  I am happy to sign with the city’s traditional and successful club, ATK Mohun Bagan.  I have heard that the joy of playing in front of millions of supporters of the Green-Maroon team in Yuba Bharati is different and I shall play this time to win them.”

He added, “I am always hungry to win the trophy.  I have brought success to the clubs that I have played in. And I shall keep this in mind as I play again.  I will do my best to win. I am looking forward to seeing the passion and excitement of the Green Maroon supporters after winning the match.  Sanjiv Goenka, the principal owner of the team, inspired me to come to Kolkata.  I am grateful to him.  My goal is to win the AFC Cup and the Indian Super League. “

ATK Mohun Bagan Head Coach Antonio Habas is happy to have the Frenchman in the side. According to Habas, “Hugo is a very fast and technically successful footballer.  His personal skills are also very good.  Hugo can create attacks as well as counterattacks.  That is why he is so successful.  With the arrival of Hugo, the strength of the team increased a lot. “
