Graeme Souness has weighed in on whether Arsenal or Manchester United will finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.
Arsenal are currently in fourth place with 32 points from their first 18 games, following a convincing 4-1 win over struggling Leeds United on Saturday.
United, meanwhile, are in sixth place with 27 points from 16 games, having had their last two games against Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion both postponed due to Covid-19 outbreaks.
West Ham currently sits in third place in the table, sandwiched between Arsenal and United, with 28 points from 17 games, while Tottenham are in seventh place with 25 points from 14 games.
Arsenal, according to Souness, are the front runners to finish in the top four, behind Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea, but he has urged them to improve in one key area.
‘Right now, they’re the best of the rest [Arsenal].’ For me, the front three are far superior to any of the other teams,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘But I’m sat between Manchester United, Arsenal, Spurs, and West Ham, who might think they’re in the mix as well.’
‘For Arsenal, fourth place is within reach, but we’re only halfway through the season.’ They have to improve on their away form, that’s not good enough.
‘We saw when they went to Liverpool a few weeks ago that the level of play between Liverpool and where [Arsenal] are right now is significantly different.
‘They have a chance to finish fourth, but Spurs, Man United, and West Ham, I believe, can cause problems for anyone they play.
