Mikel Arteta eye £200m signings with Bukayo Saka set to signs new deal

The Gunners will be in the market for a number of players this summer as they look to reinforce their first team squad in the Premier League under Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are planning a busy summer in the transfer window as they look to strengthen their first team playing squad, football.london understands.

The Gunners made two signings in January for the future, with goalkeeper Matt Turner and Colorado Rapids defender Auston Trusty both agreeing moves ahead of the summer.

Trusty will spend next season on loan at a European club, while Turner is set to replace Bernd Leno as no.2 after the German shot stopper told the club of his intention to leave.

Various contracts are expiring in the first team with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Mohamed Elneny all seeing their deals come to an end.

“We are going to have some contracts that are ending [in the summer] and we are going to have to make a decision regarding where we are and we have the option to do that,” said Arteta.

“We have players on loan that we are developing as well to understand where they can be and how much of a contribution they can have in the squad and obviously we are going to have to sign players in the summer, that’s without a question of a doubt.

“That’s something that we discuss here internally, with Edu personally all the time, with the team.

“You have to raise those ideas and the vision you have towards the owners, which are completely in line and they have been extremely supportive with us.”

Bukayo Saka will head into contract talks with the club this summer, as first revealed by football.london.

Champions League qualification will play a part in Saka’s eventual decision, although it’s understood that he is happy at the club as things stand.

Indeed, Arsenal’s final league position will influence how far they go in the summer transfer window.

“Everything helps, because the financial position is going to be determined by how good we are, with the team performances, where we finish,” Arteta said.

“Obviously that will help our sponsorship, our marketing, our ticketing sales. It’s just a ball that rolls constantly.”

Meanwhile, the three priority positions for Arsenal this summer will be at right back, central midfield and up front.

Alexander Isak, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jonathan David remain the three main striker targets, while Youri Tielemans has been mooted as a possible addition in central midfield.
