Predicted Rangers lineup to face Napoli in the Champion League

||

Rangers are in complete catastrophe following back-to-back 4-0 defeats against Celtic and Ajax. While the Old Firm humiliation was itself a new low for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men, things could have gone worse last midweek had the Dutch giants been more clinical in front of goal. Their weekend tie with Aberdeen was called off following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but the Gers have little time to recover ahead of hosting Napoli on Tuesday night.

The Serie A giants demolished Liverpool in Naples to kickstart their Champions League campaign. Luciano Spalletti’s juggernaut showed sheer supremacy from defence to attack and the Light Blues must exhibit some resilience to avoid more misery going forward.

Predicted 4-2-3-1 Rangers Lineup To Face Napoli

Defence

Jon McLaughlin made some decent saves versus Ajax overcoming his erroneous derby display. He should retain his place between the sticks and inspire Rangers to script a comeback after a disastrous week.

James Tavernier was taken off at half-time as he struggled against Ajax down the right-hand flank. The skipper has been carrying a knock but is likely to recover before their upcoming encounter. Despite facing strong criticism for his defensive frailty, Borna Barisic was the only Gers player who impressed with his relentless runs and crosses from the left-hand side of Rangers’ ‘back four’. James Sands is expected to retain his place in deep defence alongside the ever-present Connor Goldson.

Midfield

The Dutch boss needs to be more flexible while choosing his midfield options. Neither Glen Kamara nor Ryan Jack has done enough deep down the pitch and the gaffer, therefore, should opt for veteran Steven Davis to partner with John Lundstram as the ‘double pivot’.

Ryan Kent, who has been disappointing once again, must show some signs of improvement before it gets too late. He is still expected to occupy the left-wing role, whereas Scott Wright might feature from the right despite an underwhelming first half versus Ajax. Tom Lawrence and Ianis Hagi remain sidelined with injuries and the young playmaker Malik Tillman must grab his opportunities in and around the attacking third. Scott Arfield should be brought in as a substitute, given his profound experience as well as flexibility in the middle of the park.

Attack

Antonio Colak had a couple of forgettable outings but should still spearhead the attack after a boisterous start to his Rangers career. Alfredo Morelos must continue as the understudy to the Croatia international due to his form and fitness concerns.
