Takehiro Tomiyasu ruled out for ‘a few weeks’ after Arsenal’s draw against Burnley

Arsenal are set to be without Takehiro Tomiyasu for ‘a few weeks’ after the Japanese international sustained a calf injury ahead of the Gunners’ draw against Burnley.

The Gunners played out a 0-0 draw against the Clarets on Sunday afternoon and they were without Tomiyasu at the Emirates, with Ben White filling in at right-back.

Tomiyasu has been a revelation since joining the club from Bologna and the Gunners have barely noticed the departure of Hector Bellerin, who joined Hertha Berlin on a year-long loan earlier in the summer transfer window.

However, the Gunners may have to do without the Japan international for a while as Arteta has revealed he’s set for a spell on the sideliens.

‘Tomi had an injury and we didn’t have anybody to play in that position against Liverpool,’ said Arteta.

‘He needs to recover and look after himself, to try and be available as quick as he can. He will be out for a few weeks.’

With West Ham losing yesterday and Chelsea playing Tottenham later in the day, Arsenal had the chance to move into the top four with a win against Burnley.

But the Gunners squandered the opportunity, with the side appearing tired and lacking in ideas against Sean Dyche’s side.

Alexandre Lacazette came the closest to scoring the winner but his effort just narrowly missed the corner after Emile Smith Rowe’s cutback midway through the second half.
